History of The Rock Worship Center

The Rock Worship Center Church of God in Christ is a member of the Church of God in Christ denomination, the largest Pentecostal group in America. The membership of the Church of God in Christ is estimated at nearly 6 million.

Pastor Frank Jacobs founded The Rock in November 2004 with a mission to Make Disciples through Evangelism, Exaltation and Edification. The Pastor relocated to Charlotte, NC where he purchased a building located in West Charlotte formerly known as Westover Hills Presbyterian Church. The first service at The Rock was held on New Year’s Eve 2004 at our church, which is located at 1113 Fordham Road, Charlotte, NC.

The beginning stages were meager, but tremendously blessed times. Pastor Jacobs and his family’s venture to Charlotte began with his obedience to the voice of God. God told Pastor that He would be sending him to his Promised Land.

Prior to Charlotte, Pastor Jacobs was appointed to lead his father’s church after his father passed away.  The late Lewis I. Jacobs had served as Pastor for 18 years.  Following in Father’s footsteps, Pastor Frank Jacobs helped grow the ministry at Uniontown Church of God In Christ. Later Pastor Jacobs served as Pastor of the State Church in Pennsylvania called First Church of God In Christ. 

In addition to being a Pastor, Pastor Frank Jacobs is also an Area Vice President for a leading Pharmaceutical Company.   In 2004, his job transferred him to Charlotte, NC, where Pastor Jacobs has often referred to as “His Promised Land.”

In November 2004, Pastor Jacobs was blessed to find an empty church building that was for sale.  The church had been vacated with everything left behind—pews, bibles, etc. God gave Pastor Jacobs favor with the realtor and the realtor presented information to the Presbytery that would allow Pastor Jacobs to secure the building.  There were 4 families that relocated to assist with the new church. The faithful few came together to hold the first planning session for service in a local hotel on November 6, 2004. Although small in number, the ideas were awesome. We thank God for these mighty servants of God and honor each one for their contributions.

During this short period, God has sent individuals who love Him and are willing to use their gifts and talents to help build His Kingdom. The ministry is rapidly growing - souls are being saved, from nine members to over 1,000 members in four years. Recently, the Children’s Church began with more than 100 young members. We also have a Christian Academy called The Lewis I. Jacobs Memorial Academy, which serves children ages 2-4 daily.  Pastor Jacobs and the Rock Worship Center care about the community and will often visit people in the community to invite them to the church.  The Rock Worship Center recently held a FREE clothing drive and was able to provide clothing for 450 families.  Pastor Jacobs enjoys developing others: Making Disciples through Evangelism, Edification, and Exaltation.
